This morning we toured St. Catherine’s Monastery which I described in Day 9 and drove through the desert back to Cairo with two police cars as escort. Driving through the desert is monotonous but we finally reached the Suez Canal and drove through the tunnel under it.

On our way into Cairo we saw the Administrator New Cairo, a city outside the present Cairo which will house government agencies, embassies, etc. It will be ready in two months.
